Are you looking for a fun, exciting, adventurous and educational summer camp program for your child? The Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany is offering a six week summer camp where your child can explore their minds to depths beyond imaginable. At Camp Thacher, our staff understands the importance of young developing minds. Counselors play a supportive role in helping children explore who they are and who they wish to become. Camp Thacher provides opportunities for skill development with an emphasis on character growth, fun, and adventure. Campers will have opportunities to learn, explore, swim, make friends, have fun and do service projects. Provide your child with a great place to do great things, after-all, we want our community and kids to BE GREAT!
Registration is always first come – first served. A reservation without payment is not available.
Registration packets and payment must be completed before the child is considered “registered” for sessions of Camp Thacher.
HOW CAN I REGISTER MY CHILD

You may register at Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany Administrative Office at the 21 Delaware Avenue, Albany, NY 12210 from 9am-5pm.

WHAT DO I NEED WHEN I REGISTER MY CHILD?
Campers need to be registered and paid in full two weeks prior to session start date. If registration packet is complete but payment is not made, your child’s spot may be filled upon the discretion of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany.
-Boys & Girls Club Summer Camp Application completed
-Birth Certificate
-Income Eligibility Form (find attached to camp application)
-Immunization records
-If DSS recipient, you will need a signed letter of approval at registration time with the amount DSS will allow for each week tending.
-If the camper needs a prescription administered during the day, it must be accompanied with a doctor’s instruction.
IDA YARBOROUGH HOUSING:
With great pleasure, we would like to thank CDBG and the City of Albany for sponsoring 50 children from the Ida Yarborough Housing per session to attend Camp Thacher. Parents or guardians that are registering their child as a resident of Ida Yarborough must show prove of residence upon registration. Sponsored slots are open on a first come, first serve basis and each child is limited to one sponsored session.
If you would like to register your child for more than one session, the fee is the standard rate of $120 per session.
CAMP SESSIONS & COSTS
WHEN DOES CAMP THACHER BEGIN?
Camp Thacher’s 2011 summer sessions begin on Tuesday, July 5 for six, two week sessions until Friday, August 12. A bus list (below) gives all the stops that our buses may make. Campers are picked up at approximately 7:45 AM and dropped off at approximately 5:00PM.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
The cost for a two week session at Camp Thacher is $120.
Those families receiving assistance from the Department of Social Services must obtain a voucher before registering your child(ren).
A TYPICAL DAY AT CAMP
WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY LIKE AT CAMP THACHER?
When your child steps off the bus and enters the camp grounds at Lawson Lake, they will be greeted by camp specialist and walked into the eating area. At that time, campers will receive breakfast. Shortly thereafter, campers will engage in a group activity before breaking up into their age groups. Each age group has a set schedule for each day of camp. Activities that each group will participate in include field sports, water sports/swim lessons, wilderness exploration, Project Learn, SMARTMoves, and numerous other activities that will fill your child’s days with laughter, fun and an experience of a lifetime!
WHAT PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED?
Field sports, arts & crafts, environmental education, SMARTMoves, Project Learn, swim lessons, wilderness exploration, special events, games and much more offered every day!
ARE ALL CAMPERS GROUPED TOGETHER?
No they are not. Campers are placed in one of 4 age groups.
Blue Jays: 6 & 7 year olds
Ravens: 8 & 9 year olds
Condors: 10 & 11 year olds
Hawks: 12 & 13 year olds
DO I HAVE TO BRING A LUNCH?
No. All campers are provided with a free lunch and free snack each day. The program is available through the Summer Feeding Program of the USDA.
PICK UP LOCATIONS AND TIMES
WHERE CAN MY CHILD GET THE BUS? (These times may change up to the last week of registration.)
21 Delaware Avenue (7:45am, 5:15pm)
Ida Yarborough (7:45am, 5:15pm)
Please be at bus stops 10 minutes ahead of scheduled time. Buses will drop off the children in the evening in reverse order. The first picked up in the AM will be the last dropped off in the evening.
