Thank you Senior Services!!!

June 5th, 2012

Thank you, Senior Services!!!

We would like to thank Senior Services for bringing their CATCH Healthy Habits program to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany!!!

Club Members in grades 3-5 got the opportunity to learn about healthy food  and fun exercises in order to live active lifestyles and make smart food choices.

The program was run by volunteers over the age of 50 in hopes of bringing two very different generations closer together

Again, a BIG thank you goes out to Senior Services for bringing this awesome program to the Club.

New Happenings at the Club!!!

April 5th, 2012

There are new and exciting things happening at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany in the coming weeks.

Boys & Girls Clubs Week is from April 15-22 and we have some great activities and events being held!!!

The week is being kicked off with our 2nd Annual Kearney Cup Dodgeball Tournament on Sunday, April 15th.

If you have not registered your team, visit the event page here to register and get more information about the tournament.

Club Members will be doing arts & craft projects that illustrate the importance of our Club as well as writing poetry about the Club. The children will be making cards to family, friends, and staff who have made a difference in their lives while being a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs.

On Thursday, April 19th during Boys & Girls Clubs Week we will be having 2 very important events:

Teacher Appreciation Day from 3:30pm-5:30pm at the Delaware Ave Unit. We will be celebrating the many teachers who are or have impacted the lives of our Club members. Club members will be allowed to bring in their teachers to visit the Club and show them what they do when they come to the Club after school.

Go Tag, You’re It from 6:30pm-7:30pm at the Delaware Ave Unit Gym. We are trying to set a world record to see how many children can play tag at the same time around the country. This will be a fun and exciting event for Club members.

To wrap up Boys & Girls Clubs Week we will be celebrating Global Youth Service Day on Saturday April 21st.

Pick up a flyer at the Club to get more information about Global Youth Service Day or check out the event page here!!

2012 Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany Youth of the Year

March 26th, 2012

Throughout the past weeks, we have been preparing for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany’s Youth of the Year announcement. Our two nominees are assets to the Club, club members and staff. We are very proud of both individuals and wish that both could move forward to the New York State Youth of the Year event. It is with great pleasure to announce that Nedayah Gray has been named Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany’s Youth of the Year.

Nedayah has been a Club member for the past 10 months. Although Nedayah has not been a Club kid for as long as many of our members, Nedayah has truly become part of our family. She frequently helps in the classrooms during Power Hour and will instantly help any counselor when a child needs a moment away from the group. Nedayah confidently addresses situations when others may throw their hands up and walk away. Nedayah has a way of making everyone around her feel comfortable, as if she has known them for her entire life. Nedayah is a very strong minded young lady. Her determination to be a role model in the Club and in the community is unparalleled to any other teen.
